This study will explore how activism and life skills development may impact mental and physical health.

Are you or someone you know a teen or young adult in the Chicagoland area this summer?

If yes, you have the opportunity participate in an exciting new research study at Lurie Children’s Hospital.

How Does The Study Work?

If you are eligible to participate, then you will be placed randomly in one of two groups. There will be an initial 5-day summer program experience.

After the summer program, participants will participate in monthly interactive, peer group meetings and periodic health assessments.

Group 1 will complete a program that teaches teens activism skills to address social injustices that they care about.

Group 2 will complete a program that teaches adult life skills, including meal prep, financial literacy, and career preparation.

What Happens During The Study?

Both programs will give participants a chance to learn interesting new material about activism and life skills with a group of fellow peers led by a facilitator.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

After the summer program, participants will have a monthly virtual meeting with their peer group and complete periodic health assessments.

By participating, you’ll have the chance to gain valuable skills, contribute to groundbreaking research, and be part of creating a healthier, more equitable future for your community.
